The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), formerly known as the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), is the national-level qualifying examination for MBBS and BDS programs in India. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), an autonomous organization responsible for transparent and standardized testing.
The exam offers admission to around 90,000 MBBS and BDS seats across India and is usually conducted in May every year.
To be eligible, candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology as compulsory subjects in Classes 10 and 12 and must have passed these subjects. Mathematics marks are not considered in the NEET-UG examination.
NEET is conducted offline (pen-and-paper mode) in 11 languages, including English, Hindi, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Urdu, Bengali, Telugu, Kannada, and Assamese. The exam duration is three hours, with 180 questions divided into Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany & Zoology) sections.
After the results are declared, NTA releases the counselling schedule, which is made available on the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) website
